有可能，毕竟他输给了孙杨，技不如人但是心里又憋着不服气，只能找点什么其它的办法让孙杨添堵，在上领奖台之前，霍顿一直都是面无表情，满脸写着不高兴几个字，领完奖之后，霍顿也是拒绝跟孙杨和季军一起合影，场面一度非常的尴尬，只是很可惜他的这种幼稚的行为并没有激怒到孙杨。
反而是现场观看游泳比赛的很多中国的观众都愤怒了，对于霍顿的这种无礼行为表示不理解和抗议，视频上传到网上的时候也是有很多网友在线攻击霍顿，甚至有网友把霍顿当时在领奖台上没有跟孙杨一起合影的照片发出来，并配文说看起来就好像霍顿在跪着一样，引来一阵嘲笑，这就是广大网友们强大的力量，所以千万不能惹网友，更不能惹中国的网友们。
孙杨后面在接受记者采访的时候告诉记者说，他认为霍顿是在激怒自己，想要影响自己在比赛上的发挥，但是，作为一个参赛选手，就应该做好自己应该做的，特别是在领奖台上这样一个光荣重要的时刻，就算霍顿对自己有意见，心里有千百万个不愿意，但是也应该尊重自己，尊重中国。
这番话确实说到了很多体育迷的心里，也是很多中国粉丝们的心声，但是霍顿在接受采访时对自己的行为只留下了四个字，就是无话可说。在这样的国际赛事上，这样的行为真的是太无理了，目前国际泳联也已经发表声明警告霍顿的行为。
